Comment | On the floor of building 2 there were flint-tools, which indicate flint-tool-production in this place. On the road between building 2 and 3, scraps of stone-tool production were found. The whole core-reduction-process can be reconstructed here. A slate can be connected to this task. The stone-tools consisted mostly of local black flint (from the Thriphti highland above of Azoria), some consisted of red flint that maybe came from the western Mesara-plain. The short blades were made by direct percussion. They rarely were modified into tools. The blades were presumably used for cutting meat and plants, as well as for dealing with other materials. They were not used for disassembling animals or harvesting crop. The absence of obsidian, even tough Azoria is situated close to the coast, is striking. |
