Comment | stone seals: high level of craftmanship (shaping, carving, burnishing of fine-grained stones); they only occur in Level 4 and 3; they had carved flat surfaces with geometric design, a diameter of 2-5 cm, and are either circular or oval in shape. A cone-shaped seal with a hole carved through the top indicates a use as a necklace. Designs: variations of cross and parallel lines with hollowed dots between the lines or cutting through them; axial main lines combined to thinner radial ones/only radial lines occur frequently; clay stamp seals: designs: combinations of small squares or concentric circles (these patterns are widespread in the Neolithic in Western Anatolia, the Aegean and Thrace after ca. cal. 6400 BC) |
