Comment | The presence of a rich variety of ornamental objects, produced from different materials. Foremost among them are the beads that were found scattered or in stone vessels tagether with the skeletons in the graves, and left in them as burial gifts. They are mostly made from an easily-worked claret red coloured stone and have a common characteristic of being cylindrical in shape. Besides these, though less common, there are also others made from the vertebral bones of animals such as birds and fish and also from the shells of molluscs. As is the case with other find categories, the type, the quality, and the quantity of the beads vary considerably from one grave to the other. ln some of the graves no beads were found. Some of the beads are of chlorite, the same material as of the stone vessels; these stand as a distinct group among the personal objects due to their shapes. With their decorations of simple parallel lines in relief and carefully perforated holes, they reflect highly skilled craftsmanship. Apart from all these, among the finds comprising personal omaments, there are also serpentine beads, generally oval but also of different shapes. |
