Comment | Holemouth jars, and deep jars are commonly seen. Some rim and base fragments indicate that there are both oval and square shaped vessels, and the vessel size has increased. Ledge handles continue to be seen in this phase. Besides horizontally elongated handles attached below the rims, known in Phase 1, crescent-shaped handles attached on the rims are now present. Horizontally pierced handles are also found but in highly restricted numbers. The new ware contains a large amount of plant inclusions tagether with grit. The vessel walls are relatively thick, and dark coloured cores are clearly visible. The surface colours are generally a light tone ranging from reddish brown to buff. The surfaces are usually finished by smoothing. |
