Comment | The closed courtyards of the early cell buildings, which had an average area of 55m², are especially rich in cattle, deer, and goat bones. Sheep bones are very scanty and no boar bones have been found. There are also quite a number of bones inside the buildings. Lawrence draws attention to the distinct differences between the species in the courtyards and those in the buildings. The recent studies on the animal bones demonstrate an "increasing reliance on domestic animals ... pig, sheep/good by the Cell Building Subphase". Hunting continued but the decrease in the amount of hunted deer starting from the Cobble Paved Building Subphase, comparted with the previous stage, draws attention to and is associeted with the shrinking of the forest zones resulting from intesinve exploitation. |
