Description | Cayönü, which is situated in the plains immediately beneath the hilly flanks of Southeast Anatolia, is the most extensively excavated Pre-Pottery Neolithic site in Anatolia, Mesopotamia, and the Zagros region. Showing uninterrupted habitaition levels from about 10,000 BC on, Cayönü is a site where many "firsts" have been discovered. The site has an exposed area of 8000m² and became a key site in the Near East by the end of 1991, when the excavations were stopped for a time. |
