Kömürcü is the best known obsidian source of Göllüdağ, and along it, there are several workshops/knapping spots from the Lower and Middle Paleolithic, Pre-Pottery and Pottery Neolithic and Chalcolithic.
The Kaletepe workshop lies on the northern slope of Göllüdağ, northeast of Erikli (one of the most spectacular obsidian flows), at an altitude of ca. 1600 m, the area was about 4 ha big.
Surface finds: Neolithic products, belonging to different technologies and traditions (e.g. bifacial roughouts and preforms or standardized bidirectional blade cores); also some Paleolithic products(Levallois cores, Acheulian bifaces) concentrated on the periphery |
